I joined a Book Club for 3rd grade girls and their moms. The book that we interviewed was "Hannah Divided." We read the book for a month and then we met up after we finished it.
We went to the book club at 7pm and came home at 9pm, so it is 2 hours long. The theme for us was gender stereotypes. A gender stereotype is when you put girls and boys in groups and say they are one thing instead of saying they are unique. People say to Hannah that even though she is a math prodigy and wants to go after her dreams at math, they say fancy math isn't for girls.
Everybody brought their own food, it had to be vegan because 2 of us are vegetarian and 2 of us are vegan. It was really yummy. We brought olive tapenade with bread, someone brought pumpkin spice muffins, someone brought eggrolls, and there was ribbon candy and water. I liked everything but most of all I liked the ribbon candy.
Ms. Stacy, the leader, asked us questions and we had discussions about the book. My favorite part of the book club was being with different girls and having fun with them.
I think it's good to do a mother-daughter book club because it's fun and it's good to talk about books and have an opinion about the same book.
We meet again January 6 and the theme is body image. We have to watch Hairspray and read this book here.
I love book club!
What a wonderful post, Zoe!
ReplyDeleteI love my book club, too. I am in a book club with six other women, and we have been reading together for TEN YEARS!!!! Can you imagine how many books we've read together over that many years? We all have daughters, and once we did a mother-daughter meeting. For that one, we read the book Inkheart. We always have yummy snacks, too, but I am the only vegetarian in the group so I can't always enjoy the snacks.
My book club does not have a theme. That is very interesting that your books are chosen to support a theme. Who chooses the themes? Who chooses the books?
I love reading so much that it makes me happy to know that you are in this book club and that you love it. Thanks for sharing this!

ReplyDeleteMy mom's friend Ms. Stacy found a book called Her Next Chapter and that book tells you the theme and then which book you HAVE to read plus videos and books that you can read but don't have to.
How many books??? 100??? Wow!
I think they should make the snacks so you can eat them because we have a mother and daughter who are vegan in our club so we all eat vegan and the snacks still taste good.
Love, Zoe
